Our View from the Edge

Great wines begin in the vineyard…and Windacre Vineyard’s location on the edge of the Russian River Valley gives us precisely what we need by way of soil conditions, climate and elevation to grow exquisite grapes that become award-winning Merlot and Bordeaux-style wines. Our philosophy is a simple one: We let Mother Nature do the job with the fruit then practice “minimal interference” in the wine making process. The result is wines that truly reflect the unique characteristics of our vineyard blessed by the bountiful spirit of nature.

The vision for a French style winery in the Russian River Valley comes from Owners Peter and Diana Merriam who bought the vineyard in 2000 and began producing small lot, handcrafted wines from precisely-farmed acres of Merlot (Windacre Vineyard), Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyard has been in operation since the 1890s, but it wasn’t until the 1980s that the unique qualities of the property were considered for Bordeaux-style wines and Merlot stock was planted. In June of ’03, we planted 1.75 acres of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot to enhance the classic character of our wines.
